Uitvlugt was crowned the inaugural GT Beer Year-end Football Champion, edging fierce rival and tournament host Den Amstel 5-4 on penalty kicks on Sunday at the Den Amstel ground.
In front of a large and partisan crowd, Uitvlugt secured the result, after regulation and extra time ended 2-2 in a physical clash.
The experience Uitvlugt outfit, which boasts names such as Trayon Bobb, Jamal Harvey and Seon Bobb, were clinical from the distance, scoring each of their allotted attempts.
Winner of a penalty shoot-out against Young Achievers in the earlier round, the home side disappointed their large support staff, as they missed once from the mark.
Prior to the tense finish, Den Amstel seized the early lead, as recent recruit Marvin Frank found the back of the net in the sixth minute.
It went from bad to worse for the visitors, as Keswick Fraser doubled his team’s lead with a 20th-minute strike.
Stunned by the dominance of the home side, Uitvlugt kept their hopes alive of staging a comeback, as Harvey reduced the deficit on the stroke of halftime in the 45th minute.
The contest was then pushed into the extra time interval, as Daniel Floy added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 80th minute.
Uitvlugt walked away with $400,000 and the winner’s trophy. On the other side, the host pocketed $200,000 and the runner-up accolade.
The other sides that competed in the eighth team tournament were Zeelugt, Pouderoyen, Young Achievers, Crane Rovers, Eagles and Wales FC.
