Dear Editor,
On Monday 8th, 2018, My wife went to collect my pension book at the Social Protection office at Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast. In the past my wife used to collect my books without difficulty, however, this time it was different as I understand that Minister Amna Ally gave orders for all able and disabled persons to be there in person before their books can be issued.
My son who lately came into the country saw the hassle that I was getting after several attempts to get my book, and decided to call the Georgetown head office where he spoke to Ms Beresford about my plight. She promised to look into the matter immediately, and two days later she was in Essequibo to look into my case. In fact I understood that she took over the office here. In the meantime I made contact with Regional Chairman Devanand Ramdatt, who was very cooperative and tried to assist me to get the book without success; the REO was always unavailable to take my call.
Anyhow around 6pm on January 9, Ms Beresford came to my home and delivered the book to me. After a short discussion I understand her father and I had held several seminars at the RDC boardroom and the Arabian Seaview Hotel with the late Minister of Labour Dr Dale Bisnauth and Mr Kajar from Germany. What a small world. Essequibo needs more kindhearted officers like Ms Beresford to help the sick, poor and downtrodden. I have seen many old and sick people suffering at this office to get their books in the past.
Yours faithfully,
Mohamed Khan
