A miner, accused of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm with matching rounds as well as armed robbery, was charged and remanded to prison last Friday.
Sherwin Hinds denied three charges, which were read to him in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
The first charge against Hinds, 23, of Soesdyke, stated that on January 10th, 2018, at East Ruimveldt, he had a .32 pistol in his possession without being a licensed firearm holder.
It was further alleged that he had four live rounds of .32 ammunition in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Hinds was also charged with using a gun to rob Akeem Waterman of a six pennyweight gold chain, valued at $60,000, a $35,000 phone and a $50,000 phone, on April 17th, 2017, at East Ruimveldt.
Subsequent to the charges being read, police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the file relating to the matters are incomplete.
He then objected to bail for Hinds, while citing the nature and prevalence of the offences, the fact that a gun was allegedly used in the commission of the robbery and the fact that the firearm was found in the defendant’s possession.
As a result, the Chief Magistrate then remanded the accused to prison and adjourned the matter until February 2nd, when it will be heard by Magistrate Leron Daly.
