A South Central Rupununi teen was remanded to prison last Friday, after he was accused of breaking into a store and stealing over $500,000 in items.
Tibirtus Spencer, 18, denied the charge that between September 25th, 2017 and September 26th, 2017, at Tabatinga, Lethem, he broke and entered the business of Shastranand Persaud and stole $60,000 in jewellery, $444,000 in electrical appliances, three school bags and $38,000 in cash.
After Spencer’s arraignment before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown, police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted and noted that the accused gave the police an oral statement admitting to the crime.
The prosecutor, who said none of the stolen items were recovered, added that Spencer was a flight risk since he gave the police a wrong address.
Spencer was remanded and the matter was then adjourned until February 5th, when a hearing is slated at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
