Ladies and gentlemen it’s Showtime.
All of the boxers on the six-fight ‘Bad Blood’ (Sangre Malo) card scheduled for tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall cleared their final hurdle yesterday by making weight in their respective weight classes.
At the official weigh in held at the Giftland Mall, national flyweight champion, Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques was right on the 112 mark while his Venezuelan opponent, Dionis ‘El Flaco’ Arias scaled in at 109. 6 pounds. The pair will headline the night’s proceedings.
The flyweight fight will be loaded with power. Two prize fighters gunning for the win. Marques versus Arias (6-9-2), be there to witness the potential 10-round classic.
Marques, an exciting showman in the ring, has not fought since last April. He will look to shake off some ring rust and kick off his 2018 campaign with a bang since his promotional team has already lined up a Commonwealth title fight with their sights set on a world title crack later in the year.
Marques (16-2-0) told Stabroek Sport recently that he is ready and eager to return to ring and get his career back on track.
Meanwhile, light heavyweights, Shawn Corbin and Sheldon Lawrence will match gloves in the main supporting bout. They tipped the scales at 174.4 and 175 pounds respectively.
Guyana’s most exciting bantamweight fighter, the entertaining Elton ‘The Bully’ Dharry (21-5-1) displayed his chiseled physique after weighing in at 119.6. His opponent Jesus Vargas scaled at 121. The Bully’ is also looking forward to seeing the strong Dharry Army who always show up to lend their support.
James Moore (179.4) versus Sherwin Clarke (203.8), Anson Green (148.4) versus Keithland King (152.8) and Dexter ‘Cobra’ Gonsalves (134.4) versus Felipe Barcelo (135.4) were the other combatants that weighed in.
Starting time for tonight’s card is 20:00hrs. Tickets for ‘Sangre Malo’ cost $1000 for stands, $2000 for ringside and $4000 for VIP.
