Monedderlust `A’ was crowned the inaugural Stag ‘Skills for Gold’ 7-a-side football champs after crushing Paradise Invaders 4-1 Saturday at the No.#5 ground, West Coast Berbice.
The contest, which was witnessed by a sizeable crowd, started brightly for the home side as speedy winger Kevin Cottoy blasted a powerful effort into the back of the net in the 25th minute.
The visitors were not deterred and fashioned the equaliser in the 35th minute as Destard Williams placed his effort into the back of the net.
That conversion proved to be only a consolation as the hosts dominated proceedings from this moment onward, tallying three unanswered goals in a clinical display.
Kevin Layne Jr., blasted a powerful effort past the custodian in the 47th minute to hand the hosts a 2-1 advantage.
Utility man Jamaul Joseph then made his presence felt, uncorking a powerful effort into the roof of the net in the 56th minute to make it 3-1.
The score and championship was sealed four minutes onward as Stephon Moore converted to the right side of the net.
Monedderlust `A’ received the first place package of $200,000 and 10 gold rings. Each gold ring is valued at $25,000 while Paradise Invaders received the runners-up package of $100,000 and 10 silver rings.
Meanwhile, Monedderlust `B’ crushed Rosignol United’s U20 side 5-0 with Atlyn Brown tallying a helmet trick in the lopsided contest.
Brown found the back of the net in the ninth, 18th, 24th and 58th minute. He was assisted by Bryan Thom, who scored in the 33rd minute.
With the win, Monedderlust `B’ walked away with $50,000 while Rosignol United U20 pocketed $25,000.
