An officer from the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) was required to intervene on behalf of three school-aged children in Port Kaituma, North West District after reports were made of them being kept away from school.
This move by the officer came after a photograph of the three was shared on a concerned citizen’s page on Facebook which was accompanied by a call for an intervention by the authorities.
Based on observations made, the three children, two boys and one girl all seem to be below the age of 12 and according to residents had been seen selling “grass seeds” to bird owners in the village.
Stabroek News understands that subsequent to the photo surfacing on social media, officials from the CCPA on the ground were notified and the mother of the children engaged.
As a result, measures have been put in place to facilitate the children’s return to school from yesterday.
