One week prior to the start of the West Indies Super50 cup, the Guyana Jaguars yesterday released their 14-man squad which features five new faces.
In an effort to win the title that has eluded the Guyana Jaguars for over a decade, (They last won it in 2005), the squad will now feature a number of explosive young talents in Chandrapaul Hemraj, Ramaal Lewis, Clinton Pestano, Ricardo Adams and Sherfane Rutherford.
They will aid the core of experienced players such as the legendary Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Veerasammy Permaul and West Indies batsmen Leon Johnson, Shimron Hetmyer and Raymon Reifer.
Hemraj is a colorful top order batsman who impressed in the Regional four -day tournament and was integral to their win, notching up 623 runs with five half centuries including a top score of 90.
Former West Indies Under-19 captain, 21-year-old Ramaal Lewis has also been included in the squad and will be handy with his off spin bowling. It was only yesterday that young Lewis impressed with figures of 5-0-4-2 helping Georgetown into the final of the Guyana Cricket Board/ Jaguars 50 overs league.
Adams also impressed on the local league as part of the Essequibo team and has experience in representing Guyana at the Under-15 and Under-19 levels. He has earned the reputation as a hard-hitting, left-handed batsman and a nifty bowler.
Pestano, who has also represented Guyana at the Under-19 level, made his senior first class debut last year and will be looking to make an immediate impact in the side.
Rutherford has been the talk of the town having been part of the successful Jaguars team in the Regional four-day competition where he smacked 90 odd in the final match against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force as well as picking up two wickets.
