Designer and founder of the brand Original Stush (OS) Carlos Anthony is currently in Guyana making preparations for his first runway show here as well as the launching of Original Stush’s clothing line and the OS perfume for men and women: He Stush and She Stush.
His collection, ‘Childhood’ is a reflection of nature and his childhood spent here and will be showcased over Valentine weekend.
Carlos, who hails from Number One Canal, began as a Soca artiste in Guyana under the stage name ‘Lucky B’, a career which ended in 2009. By then he was already big on fashion and decided to pursue a diploma in Fashion at the Art Institute of New York. Then in 2010, he founded Original Stush in New York, launching his ‘Golden Black’ collection of both male and female summer and spring pieces.
Carlos is the head designer of a team of six. Together, according to him, they make some of the most exquisite and appealing pieces, that would have been showcased year after year at the New York Fashion Week. While pursuing his fashion designing diploma, Carlos got the opportunity to try his hand at making and testing fragrances, which led to He Stush and She Stush in 2016. He later did another course in wine making and is on his way to launching OS Couture 2016 wine this September. Carlos says he has preparations underway in Canal Number One Canal a wine factory and will give more details on this as the year unfolds.
Already, the designer’s schedule is full for the year with his first fashion show set for Valentine night, the weekend includes a launching, the release of He Stush and She Stush, a press conference and the runway night. If all goes as planned, the venue will be the Pegasus Hotel. In May Carlos will hold workshops, training aspiring designers in swimwear, courses on modelling and photography and tips on finding the right poses for models. Workshops are expected to also be held at schools in hinterland areas including Lethem and Bartica. Then in September, another fashion weekend of activities is scheduled including a perfume release, wine tasting and runway night.
“Seeing somebody smile when they wear one of my pieces is a big deal for me. I want to change the way people dress and hopefully in the future, create a fashion industry in Guyana that allows for studies in fashion and more,” Carlos said.
He will be casting for models in a little over a week and is urging models to contact him by next week.
Tickets for the runway night during Valentine weekend will cost $3,000 for regular and $5,000 for VIP. With a purchase of either regular or VIP ticket each guest will be entitled to the wine-tasting and finger foods while VIP guests will receive gift bags containing He Stush and She Stush samples and OS discount cards along with free entry to the after party.
