Guyanese and Caribbean films will this year continue to be celebrated by the Caribbean Film Academy (CaFA), which in partnership with the Caribbean-American culture blog Rewind And Come Again (RACA) will for the third year running hold the Timehri Film Festival (TFF) from May 30 to June 3, 2018.
According to a press release from the organisers, over the five days, daily film screenings and discussions will be held at various locations in Georgetown such as Moray House and Dutch Bottle Café. It is expected that films about Guyana and by Guyanese will feature prominently coupled with the screenings of short and feature length films from around the Caribbean and the diaspora. Most the screenings will be free and open to the public.
“In an effort to reach audiences who don’t have access to the festival, TFF will once again hold a series of satellite screenings in and around the capital and neighbouring villages. Films will be shown at select schools, prisons, and indigenous communities,” the organisers said in a release.
And for the first time TFF is expected to offer a week-long filmmaking workshop, from Monday, May 28 to Saturday, June 2. While not naming the person, TFF said that the workshop will be facilitated by an award-winning Caribbean director/producer and will focus on the nuts and bolts of documentary filmmaking. Production and aesthetics, interviewing styles and storytelling will feature during the workshop which will provide information on key production techniques and industry best practices.

Meanwhile, TFF said one of its primary missions is to support and celebrate the work of Guyanese filmmakers, as well as to shine a light on films that speak to the country’s history and culture. To this end, it has opened a call for submissions of narratives, documentaries and animated short films made in/about Guyana or by filmmakers of Guyanese heritage.
Submissions opened on January 2 and can be made until March 15.
