(Trinidad Express) Within the next 13 months, this country will have its first Linear Accelerator facility.
The North West Regional Health Authority yesterday signed a contract with the China Railway Construction Company for the construction of the facility which will cost some $84 million.
The facility is to be built at the St James Medical Complex.
A linear accelerator is used for radiation treatments for patients with various types of cancer. According to the Ministry of Health, it is the most sophisticated means of cancer treatment today.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said the signing of the contract with China Railway represents a proud day for Trinidad and Tobago.
During a visit to China in 2014, CRCC took members of the Trinidad and Tobago media on a tour to demonstrate its ability to build and outfit medical facilities.
