A recently released robbery accused is now the suspect in an attack on a Golden Grove woman, who was robbed yesterday afternoon on the East Bank of Demerara.
The police said they are currently pursuing the suspect, who was recently granted his pre-trial liberty after being charged with several counts of armed robberies, following the attack on Vesta Puran.
The attack occurred around 12.30 pm.
According to a Guyana Police Force statement, Puran visited the Demerara Bank branch on the Diamond Public Road to withdraw a sum of money. It said Puran left the bank with her car and went to Fourth Avenue, Diamond, where she paid her employees. She had $50,000 remaining, which she secured in her brown shoulder bag, the police noted.
Puran, police added, drove to a shop to make a purchase and as she was approaching the cashier, she noticed the suspect brandishing a handgun. The man then relieved her of her of cash, a Samsung cellular phone and important documents before escaping in a waiting car.
The attack was captured by surveillance cameras.
