Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, Silver Bullets, Ansa McAl All-Stars and Tiger Bay, secured opening night wins, when the inaugural Magnum Mash Futsal Championship started on Saturday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Sparta Boss edged Buxton Diamond 1-0. Dennis Edwards scored in the 10th minute. Similarly, Gold is Money downed the Rugby Team 2-0.
Siblings Randolph Wagner and Hubert Pedro, scored in the fifth and 16th minute respectively. Meanwhile, Ansa McAl All-Stars defeated Channel-9 Warriors 2-0.
Veteran ‘hitman’ Delroy Dean bagged a brace in the fifth and 15th minute. Silver Bullets riddled Kingston 5-0. Jermaine Samuels led the rout with a double in the fifth and 17th minute.
Chipping in with goals in the 10th, 13th and 16th minute correspondingly were D. Freeman, Omar Williams and Damion Williams.
Tigerbay pounced on Hustlers 3-1. Orin Moore recorded a double in the third and sixth minute, while Wendell Austin added a goal in the 14th minute.
Scoring for the loser in the 12th minute was Stephon Reynolds. In other results, Team Extreme overcame Sophia 2-1.
Adrian Adonis and Pernell Schultz scored in the third and 17th minute each. For Sophia, Dwayne Lowe found the back of the net in the 19th minute.
NK Ballers and California Square battled to a 2-2 stalemate. David George and Delon Kelly scored in the fifth and seventh minute for California Square.
For Linden unit NK Ballers, Kenard Simon and Keon Sears found the back of the net in the seventh and 11th minute correspondingly.
Similarly, Broad Street and MBK All-Stars played to a 1-1 result. Akeem Sam handed Broad Street the lead in the 14th minute, while Deon Alleyne equalised two minutes later.
Also, Showstoppers and Bent Street defeated North Ruimveldt and YMCA All-Stars respectively via walkovers.
The eight day event features 32 teams battling for over $800,000 in cash and prizes in an initial group format.
Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each of the eight groups (four teams per group), advances to the knockout round.
Winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up receives $200,000 and the corresponding accolade.
On the other hand, the third and fourth placed finishers will walk-away with $100,000 and $50,000 apiece, and the respective trophy.
