Statements were last Friday served to the Mocha businessman who was charged last year with causing the death of a woman, whom he struck along the Herstelling Public Road.
Cleveland Softleigh, who is charged with causing death through dangerous driving, received the statements when the matter was called before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The charged against Softleigh stated that on July 29th, 2017, he drove motorcar PKK 3251 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of 64-year-old Ingrid James.
Magistrate Latchman later adjourned the matter until February 19th, when the trial is expected to commence.
The prosecutor’s case is that on the said date at about 8.20 pm, Softleigh was proceeding at a fast rate along the Herstelling Public Road and collided with James, who at the time was crossing. James, who landed some distance away from the point of impact, was picked up by Softleigh and taken to the Diamond Hospital.
It was previously reported that as a result of the collision, James’ left leg was severed and she sustained injuries to her head and body. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Hospital, after being transported there in an unconscious state.
A statement from the police had said that the woman was reportedly crossing the road and walked into the path of the vehicle.
