Uitvlugt was crowned the Hamilton Green 83rd Birth Anniversary 9-a-side Inter-Ward Football Champion Sunday after defeating Crane on penalty kicks at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground.
Locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time, Uitvlugt prevailed from the penalty mark by two goals to one.
Uitvlugt earned $70,000 and a trophy and Crane $30,000 and a trophy.
Ricks and Sari food hampers will be presented to the winning team along with blankets from Food for the Poor Guyana Incorporated.
Esan Nelson of Crane was the highest goal scorer with six conversions and will receive a table set compliments of China Trading while Trayon Bobb of Uitvlugt was the second highest scorer in the event with two goals, and will receive a ‘Lazy boy Chair’ from A.H. & L. Kissoon. All trophies have been donated by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market.
In the semifinal round, Uitvlugt defeated traditional rival Pouderoyen 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks after the match ended 1-1 while Crane needled Georgetown giant Tiger Bay 1-0. In the quarterfinals, Uitvlugt and Crane edged Sara Lodge and Soesdyke respectively via 1-0 scores while Pouderoyen defeated Plaisance 1-0 and Tiger Bay downed Crane Rovers 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks after a scoreless draw.
Meanwhile in the earlier Brian Tiwari exhibition tournament, Zeelugt defeated Den Amstel 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks in the final after normal time ended 1-1.
Zeelugt won $20,000. In the earlier semi-final matches in the section, Zeelugt defeated Wales 1-0 while Den Amstel downed Bagotville 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks.
