Off-spinner Jonathan Rampersaud backed up his first round four-wicket haul with another exceptional bowling performance to spin Berbice to a five-wicket win over Demerara in the second round of Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Dave West Indian Imports under – 15 inter county tournament at the Everest Cricket Club ground, yesterday.
It was another disappointing low score affair with Demerara after winning the toss and electing to bat, being shot out for 50 in the 21st over of their innings.
Rampersaud, continuing from where he left off on Sunday, created further misery by grabbing 5-12 from 8 overs.
Left-arm spinner, Jeremey Sandai who also had excellent figures in the opening match against the President’s XI, bagged 3-13 from six overs to rout their arch rivals. Budram Lakeram also chipped in handily with 2-2 form 3.3 overs.
None of the Demerara batsmen showed any application as was reflected on the scorecard, with only number four batsman Chanderpaul Ramraj (11) reaching double figures with ‘extras’ in this case, ‘top scoring’ with 21 which included 16 wides.
The defending champions in response, took a staggering 30.2 overs to reach their target, losing five wickets to finish with the scorecard reflecting 50 – 5.
‘Extras’ which is unlikely to feature for Guyana in the regional under – 15 tournament, once again ‘top-scored’ with 17 while Zeyna Ramsammy (12) top-scored with the bat.
Off-spinner Vishal Persaud bowled with guile to finish with 1-5 from six overs, while Krisna Singh (1-12) and Ramraj (1-9) also ticked the wickets column.
