A 19-year-old Mazaruni miner was on Wednesday placed on $75,000 bail for two break and enter charges.
The first charge alleged that Johnson Charly between December 6th and 7th, 2017 at Imbaimadai Landing, Upper Mazaruni, broke and entered the shop of Sheldon Williams and stole eight packs of Bristol cigarettes, valued at $4,000, three boxes of chicken and chips, valued at $3,000, five small bottles of vodka, valued at $3,000 and $100,000 cash, for a total value of $110,000 property of Sheldon Williams.
The second charge states that between November 25th and 26th at Jawalla Village, Upper Mazaruni, he broke and entered the home of Camille Hunter and stole a white Samsung Galaxy cellphone and memory card valued at $47,500.
Charly pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The prosecutor stated that the cellphone was recovered on his person, before adding that Charly had served three months in prison for a matter of a similar nature. He then made no objections to bail being granted.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan then granted Charly $50,000 bail on the first charge and $25,000 bail on the second charge. The magistrate also placed him on a bond.
The matter has been adjourned until March 19th when it will be heard at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
