21-year-old Hamzah Eastman has been in superb form since his return to cycling on the local scene and is poised to add the Linden Forbes Sampson (LFS) Burnham cycling meet title to his collection come Sunday.
The Team Cocos rider won back to back races last weekend at the R&R International Limited 35 lap Invitational, and the 46-mile road race.
Last year, the LFS Burnham event was organised as a three stage meet, but this year it will only feature two stages.
The first stage will begin in Corriverton and finish at Main Street, New Amsterdam. In this race one season ago, Eastman finished second, behind Berbician Andrew Hicks of We Stand United.
However, in the second stage which rode off from Linden and concluded on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown saw Eastman taking the honours. This year, the event is slated for Sunday, February 25.
Should Eastman better his previous performance in the Berbice leg and defend the Demerara stage, he would become the first rider to accomplish the feat. When the young rider spoke to Stabroek Sport, he was bursting with energy to become the greatest cyclist in the country’s history, but he has first set his sights on first becoming the number one rider in the country this year.
Eastman, who trains in the United States had been a mainstay in the top positions in almost every race he enters on the local scene. The LFS Burnham cycling meet is organized by Flying Stars Cycling Club and sponsored by the Burnham Foundation.
Riders are reminded that transportation leaves in front of the Ministry of Social Cohesion, Main Street, Georgetown at 05:00hrs this Sunday and 05:30hrs on the following Sunday.
