Westbury man charged with attempted murder of wife

Leonard Grant called `Snakie’, 36, a labourer of Westbury, Essequibo Coast is now the latest guest of the state after he was remanded to prison yesterday for allegedly stabbing his reputed wife several times about her body.

Grant appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court where the indictable charge of attempted murder was read to him.

The charge stated that on Monday, February 12th, at Charity Waterfront, Grant attempted to murder Shenella Marks.

It is the police’s case that on February 12th, Grant stabbed Marks multiple times about her body at the Charity Water Front, Essequibo Coast.

He reportedly went up to her from behind armed with a knife and dealt her four stabs; one to her left lower back, two to her right side just below the arm pit and one behind her left ear. As a result, the blade of the knife was stuck behind Marks left ear and she had to undergo emergency surgery at the Suddie Public Hospital.

After allegedly committing the act, Grant fled the scene, but was later apprehended. Grant has a pending criminal charge of assault in relation to Marks at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.

Grant who stood in the prisoner’s dock was not required to plead to the charge neither was he represented by an attorney at law. He was remanded to prison until March 5th, 2018 when statements are expected to be filed.
