The Pouderoyen Tarmac tonight, will provide the setting for the dream matchup between two time defending champion Showstoppers, and ESPN, in the finale of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara Zone.
Although both teams possess talented rosters, the home side, Showstoppers are the proverbial favourites in their first ever showdown.
Showstoppers earned their fourth consecutive berth to the championship game, following a 6-0 win over West Side Ballers in the semi-final round.
The other teams which fell to the undefeated champions were Admiral United, Harmony Ballers, Rising Stars and Zeelugt Warriors.
Offensively, Showstoppers led by the dangerous quartet of Marvin Josiah, Dexroy Adams, Stephon Jupiter and Trayon Bobb, have recorded an eye catching tally of 18 goals.
Defensively, the title holder is yet to concede a goal, further cementing their status as the favourite.
However, their opponent ESPN possesses an equally talented squad comprising brothers Kevon and Trevon Lythcott, alongside Pernell Schultz, Dwayne Lindie and Nick Nestor. The first time finalists clinched their place in the championship match, following a lopsided 3-0 win over Dream Team. From the attacking perspective, ESPN has recorded 14 goals. ESPN’s route to the final included earlier victories over Parfait Hardball, Ballers Empire and Frontline Ballers. On the defensive end, the challenger has only conceded once, which occurred in their first match of the competition.
The large crowd which is expected to descend on the venue, should see a thrilling contest.
The victor will walk-away with $400,000 and the championship trophy, whilst the runner-up pockets $200,000 and the corresponding accolade. Both teams have already sealed their qualification for the national tournament.
The third place playoff will pit Dream Team against West Side Ballers from 23:00hrs. Winner of the clash will collect $100,000, while the loser will pocket $50,000.
Prior to the third place playoff, the Guinness Plate Tournament will commence from 20:00hrs. In the opening semi-final fixture, Rising Stars will oppose Boom-Bang, while the second match pits Hustlers against Ballers Empire.
