Former National Ladies champion Ashley Khalil began her participation in Bounty Farm Ltd. Handicap Squash Tournament by downing Javid Rahaman last evening at the Georgetown Club squash courts on Camp Street.
Khalil (-2), who did not land a spot on the national team for the Commonwealth Games in Australia, looked sharp during her 15-7 first set win over Rahaman, and backed it up by taking the second and the match, by a similar score line.
Meanwhile, Nyron Joseph, who was also on show last evening, opened his account with a win. Joseph, playing with a -22, fought hard for the 15-9, 15-14 win over Bryan Young.
Taylor Fernandes (-4) continued her fine form, winning her second match 15-14, 15-13 over John Maikoo.
Joe Mekdeci had the better of Jonathan Antczak (+5) 15 -14, 15-10 in the first Open Category match of the evening.
In a seesaw matchup, Regan Pollard (-12), lost to Ian Mekdeci (+8), by two sets to one 15-3, 14-15, 15-3.
In a thrilling encounter, Alexander Cheeks (-2) earned a hard-fought win over 14-year-old Samuel Ince-Carvalha (+5). Cheeks took the first set over his junior counterpart 15-11, but Ince-Carvalha pushed Cheeks hard in the second set, before eventually surrendering 15 – 14.
Also, in the Open Category Alex Alves defeated Robert Natiello (+5) 15-12, 13-15, 15-11.
