A minibus driver was shot and chopped on Thursday evening at Victoria Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, after he refused to comply with the orders of bandits.
Alfred Braithwaite, 37, of Vryheids Lust South, East Coast Demerara, is currently admitted as a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital in a stable condition.
He was shot once to his right leg and chopped.
The attack, the police said, was carried out around 6.45 pm by three men, two of whom were armed with guns and the other with a cutlass.
The suspects, who have been identified as ‘Juvenile,’ ‘Bang’ and ‘Kevin,’ are currently being sought.
According to a police press statement on the attack, Braithwaite was standing in front of a SuperBet outlet when he was approached by the suspects. The men, the police said, demanded that Braithwaite hand over his money but he refused and resultantly was shot in the right leg.
Police said that after being shot, Braithwaite rushed into his minibus, BVV 7712, which was nearby and secured himself. However, the men followed him and damaged the windscreens and windows of the vehicle before also inflicted a wound to the right side of his face. They relieved him of $14,000, the statement added.
