The final of the 2018 Bounty Farm Limited Handicap squash tournament will be decided between Alexander Cheeks and Nyron Joseph after both won their semifinal matches last evening at the Georgetown Club Squash courts at Camp Street.
Joseph (-10) in his match against Nicholas Narine played with poise and covered the court with remarkable ease to win the first set 15-10.
The second set was much of the same with Joseph toying and teasing his counterpart to eventually take the second set and the match 15-10
Cheeks (-2), on the other hand, had a much more testing road to the final which saw him coming from a set down against Adam Alves (+5) 15- 7 to bounce back and take the second 15-10.
He held his composure in the final set and made Alves work by utilizing the side and front wall brilliantly to take the match 15-7.
Abosaide Cadogan in the first category A semifinal powered her way past the improving James Mekdeci.
Cadogan was her usual industrious self, canvassing the court to win a number of long rallies, taking the first set 15- 11.
Mekdeci made the match entertaining when he struck truck back in the second by executing some smart plays to take the second 15 – 11.
Cadogan, nonetheless, held her composure and used her superior level of endurance to book her spot in the final, winning the final set 15-10.
Michael Alphonso (-6) on the other hand, smartly placed his shots above the tin to ease his way past Kirstin Gomes 15-7, 15-8 to set up the category A final against Cadogan.
Meanwhile, the first semifinal match in the plate category, 11-year-old Kamir Khan made light work of Osman Mack (+3) 15-7, 15-11 to book a spot in the final against Nicholas Verwey.
Verwey in his semifinal match triumphed over Zackary Persaud (+2) two sets to one in a close contest.
Verwey took the first set 15-13 before Persaud struck back to win the second 15-12. However, Verwey with a few slices of luck, won the final set which went down to the wire, 15-14.
He will come up against Robert Natiello (+2) in the final after Natiello defeated Jonathan De Groot 15-13, 15-14.
