All roads will lead to the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue tonight when the final of the inaugural Magnum Mash Futsal Championship kicks off.
The semi-finals of the event was staged yesterday [Saturday] at the same venue and was witnessed by a large crowd.
Bent Street was down to lock horns with Silver Bullets in the opening affair, while Sparta Boss was programmed to battle Leopold Street in the feature contest.
Silver Bullets crushed fellow Linden unit Swag Entertainment 4-2, whilst Bent Street edged Showstoppers 5-3 in the quarterfinal round staged on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Sparta Boss needled Ol Skool Ballers 2-1. Meanwhile, Leopold Street edged Gold is Money 1-0 on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time ended 1-1.
Prior to the commencement of today’s final, several exhibition matches will occur from 21:00hrs. Winner of the tournament will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy.
The runner-up will pocket $200,000 and the respective accolade, while the third and fourth placed teams will collect $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
The eight day event which commenced on February 3rd at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, featured 32 teams battling for over $800,000 in cash and prizes in an initial group format.
Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each of the eight groups (four teams per group), advances to the knockout round
Among the other notable teams that competed were Gold is Money, Back Circle, Future Stars, Albouystown-A, Tiger Bay, New Market Street, Broad Street, North East La Penitence, Channel-9 Warriors, California Square, Showstoppers, MBK All-Stars, NK Ballers, Swag Entertainment, Ol Skool Ballers, Mocha, Buxton Diamond, YMCA and Ansa All-Stars.
