Chief Executive Officer of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Hilbert Foster was yesterday voted in as new president of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) at its Annual General Meeting at the New Amsterdam Town Hall.
The court supervised elections saw Foster defeating the only other challenger for the post Dhierandranauth Somwaru by 18 votes to 16.
“It is time to take Berbice Cricket forward,” the new president told Stabroek Sports following his victory.
According to Foster, whose brother was also served as president of the BCB, it was only yesterday morning that he decided to contest the post.
Foster said he was ready to take up the responsibility of leading Berbice cricket.
The proceedings, as per order of Justice Navindra Singh, was witnessed by an official of the Court, who had his work cut out for him after GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie and former Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) President Colin Bynoe were both nominated to serve as the Returning Officer.
With the tension rising after only a few minutes of the meeting being called to order, the Court Marshall resorted to separating the voters on each side of the room in order to select the Returning Officer and after the head count, Bynoe was named Returning Officer with 18 votes to Sanasie’s 16.
Bynoe immediately commenced the process of the verification of the voters list which amounted to 34 eligible voters.
The new three vice presidents are Albert Smith, who defeated David Black,
Jeavoughn Stevens and Walter Winter.
Stevens secured 18 votes while Winter’s nomination was unopposed.
Rabindranauth Saywack and Vickram Seubarran tied in the first voting for the post of Secretary but on the second ballot, Saywack received 18 votes to Seubarran’s 15 with one voter not casting his ballot.
The Treasurer is Dr. Cecil Beharry and his assistant Winston Roberts.
Amir Rahaman is the Assistant Secretary while the four representatives to the GCB are Foster and Saywack as President and Secretary and Angela Hannif and Smith.
