Only the third time in five years will a computerized scoring system be used for a boxing card as it will be used for the Patrick Forde Memorial competition which opens the 2018 season of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA).
The tournament, which is organised by McDonald Promotions and scheduled for the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, will feature some 14 top class fights including the St. Lucia top Welterweight Nathan ‘Flash’ Ferarri and Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis clash.
According to the President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, all of the fights will see computerized scoring after a considerable amount of years without its use.
“The electronic scoring system was something I would have brought back in some time ago but we needed some part and now we have it,” Ninvalle said, adding that “it eliminates some of the human error that we had but it is still being used by humans.”
computerized scoring was previously used in the 2015 Caribbean Development Tournament and the Caribbean Schoolboys and juniors tournament the following year.
Also in the night of action there will be the ‘pugnacious puncher’ and arguably Guyana’s best young talent, Keevin Allicock taking to the ring against Trinidadian thunder puncher, Christopher DeFreitas.
In addition to four stars from Suriname, there will be two female fights on the show which begins at 19:00h.
Tickets cost $1500 ringside and $1000 elsewhere.
