Seasoned teams recorded wins when action continued at the National Gymnasium on Monday in the 27th annual Easter term windball cricket competition sponsored by Forbes Burnham Foundation and organized by Al Sports.
In the only male match, St. John’s College raced to 115 from their five overs without losing a wicket against St Rose’s.
Odida Douglas bombarded the St. Rose’s High bowling on his way to an unbeaten 55 while his partner Demetri Vansluytman coasted to 43.
In reply, St. Rose’s were restricted to 87 from their allotted overs, losing four wickets in the process.
In the girls division, Bishops’ High School made light work of debutants, St. Barnabas School to win by 23 runs. Bishops’ sent into bat posted 130-3.
Keziah Joseph top scored with an unbeaten 38 and she was supported by Kureece King (28) and Kelly Smith (16 not out).
In reply, St. Barnabas fought valiantly in their opening match but were contained to 107-5.
Joseph returned with the ball to capture 2-14 and Kuniesha Lowkashawar bagged 2-15.
Shafeena Bashir (38) and Faith King with 26 not out were the main contributors for St. Barnabas.
Meanwhile, Kuru Kuru Cooperative College were blown away by Central High who won by eight wickets. Kuru Kuru’s 51-4 in the small gymnasium was never enough despite Makala Small’s 23 and Julianna Williams’ 21.
Safisla Austin took 2-8. Central High raced to the target in just 2.2 overs as Austin returned to blast 22 while Tiqumba Hunte saw them home with 12 not out.
In the final encounter of the day, Mae’s Secondary destroyed Queen’s College by 61 runs. Afriuca Gentle deposited a record 11 sixes in the day on her way to 70 while Crystal Melville added 24 to see Mae’s posting 108-3. In response, Queen’s College crawled to 47-6 with Christine Ramdeholl taking 2-6. Serena Razak top scored with 18.
