East Coast bounced back to crush Georgetown by 117 runs in the second match of the Demerara Cricket Board’s Inter-Association U17 tournament yesterday.
Playing at the Everest Cricket Club ground, East Coast won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 200 from their 50 overs.
Hemnauth Dindyal hammered an impressive 59 to build on the foundation set by Shivnand Gossani (11) and Andrew Samaroo (26). On his way to his fine half century, Dindyal smashed five fours and two massive sixes, with one even being dispatched out the ground and onto Carifesta Avenue.
Rajendra Samaroo wasted little time. Facing only three deliveries, he sent one over the fence and one coasting to the boundary rope while Elnathan Shivnandan slammed a quick-fire 26.
The eventual total was boosted by 48 extras mainly due to a sub-par bowling display from Georgetown. Niron Bissu was the pick of the bowlers with 3-35 with Reynaldo Mohamed took 2-42. Thameshwar Permaul (1-20), Jeremiah Benjamin (1-6) and Jason Holder (1-15) were the other wicket takers.
In reply, Georgetown lost Permaul early and with Gerrick Persaud (12) and Kaireem Whitney (07) falling cheaply, they were in a spot of bother before the rain brought them a brief respite.
Upon resumption, Benjamin and Ariel Tilku worked the singles well but when Benjamin departed after scoring just seven, another flurry of wickets fell with Bissu (00), Dominic Roberts (00) and Wayne Bollins (01) falling in quick succession.
Tilku tried valiantly but was trapped LBW by Aaron Beharry for the top score of 17.
While East Coast’s bowling was a bit better, they still gave away 25 extras.
Andrew Samaroo, 3-11, Trevon Charles (3-9), Beharry 92-6) and Vinod Sundar (1-11) were the wicket takers as Georgetown stumbled to 83 all out in 33.3 overs.
The competition continues today with East Coast vs West Demerara at Everest and East Bank against Georgetown at Bourda from 09:30h.
