A Craig youth who allegedly tried to beat a man to death with a bicycle bar was on Tuesday remanded to prison on an attempted murder charge.
The charge against Morris Khan, 19, states that on February 15th, at Old Road, Craig, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Oswald O’Brien with intent to commit murder.
Khan was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The prosecutor stated that the victim is currently in a serious state at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He then stated that on the day in question, Khan dealt O’Brien several lashes with a bicycle bar. He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted based on the serious nature of the offence and the fact that the victim is still hospitalised in a serious condition.
Chief Magistrate McLennan then remanded Khan to prison and adjourned the matter until March 16th.
