East Bank Cricket Association won the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Under-17 Inter-Association Tournament after beating West Demerara by 61 runs, yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, East Bank posted 181 for the loss of seven wickets, from their allotted 50 overs. Yeudister Persaud fell in the first over to in-form bowler, Joshua Reddy, but Sachin Singh and Navindra Persaud combined to dent the West Bank bowling attack, who lost Reddy to injury after just five overs. Reddy had suffered an injury a few days ago and had sat out the previous match.
Singh, pushing to an out turning delivery, was drawn out of his crease and brilliantly stumped for 17, with East Bank’s total on 81. When Persaud was then joined by Sherwin Yearwood and the two batted well together, before a collision whilst taking a run, saw Persaud depart for 38.
However, dangerman Mavendra Dindyal hammered a significant half century, which included five fours, steered his team to 181.
Even though the other batsman contributed timely runs, poor communication accounted for three run outs, while extras accounted for the grand total of 42 runs.
Once again, Andre Seepersaud was the pick of the bowlers with 2-23, while Joshua Reddy (1-23) and Rajesh Budhram (1-24) were the other wicket takers.
In reply, Usharrdiva Balgobin combined well with Nicholas Rajpat to set the foundation for the chase, putting on 34, before Balgobn departed for 13. Seepersaud joined Rajpat, and the pair added 42, before Rajpat was easily caught and bowled by Zakary Jodah.
When Seepersaud departed for 29, West Demerara crumbled. Marlon Boele was the chief destroyer, picking up four wickets, while Jodah bagged 2-10.
With two wins from three games, East Bank won on Net Run rate, having pipped Georgetown who also had two wins.
