When the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) along with Alford McDonald squares up on Sunday to stage the Patrick Forde Memorial Open, Tower Suites will be a key corner man.
It was announced yesterday that the Main Street establishment is the official sponsor for the international flavoured card which is scheduled to get underway at 19:00hrs at the National Gymnasium.
According to President of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, the annual fixture is expected to attract Guyana’s finest along with pugilists from Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and St Lucia.
Ninvalle who thanked the representatives of Tower Suites for their corporate support, told Stabroek Sport that St Lucian, Nathan Ferrari and local standout, Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis will headline the 14-fight card.
Ferrari along with his coach, Conrad Hunte are scheduled to arrive in the 592 today.
The duo have a bit of history and unfinished business. Lewis defeated Ferrari in the light welterweight final of the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament last December in Barbados to earn the gold medal.
‘Superman’ has stated that he plans to build a special garage to park Ferrari.
The rematch has created so much buzz around the Region that President of the St Lucia Boxing Association, David ‘Shakes’ Christopher mentioned that he is flying in with the sole purpose of witnessing the main event from ringside.
If you are a fan of the fistic sport then ‘The Gymnasium’ is definitely the place to be on Sunday. Tickets can be had from Sweet Point and Nicky’s Fish Shop or any executive of the GBA.
Ringside seats cost $1,500 while regular seating is $1000.
