A craftsman was remanded to prison on Thursday after being charged with robbing a woman of a cellphone in a gun-point attack.
The charge against Colin Bryan, 31, states that on February 15th, 2018, at Pere Street, Kitty, in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Andrea Herreira of a cellphone and earphones, valued at $20,000.
The unrepresented Bryan pleaded not guilty to the charge and told Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown that the robbery occurred on David Street, where he works. He said that he told “the boys” not to do anything near where he works because the police would come for him as he had just recently gotten out of prison. He subsequently stated that they gave him the earphones so he wouldn’t identify them if the police came for him. He also admitted that he took the earphones and pawned them.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the stolen items were not recovered although the accused took police to two places to recover the earphones. He further objected to bail being granted based on the seriousness of the offence and the fact that a gun was used to commit the offence.
Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently remanded Bryan to prison and adjourned the matter until March 9th.
