The Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) of Guyana is encouraging members of the public to save a life by giving blood at its blood drive tomorrow.
Alluding to the frequency with which open heart surgeries are done by the CHI, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Medical Director of the institute Dr. Gary Stephens said that such surgeries are almost impossible without blood. He noted that during the 14 years that the CHI has been doing open heart surgery in Guyana, the National Blood Bank has been one of its biggest supporters and it was with this in mind that the decision was taken to organise the blood drive.
“The National Blood Bank has been amazing to us over the years and I know we can sometimes be pretty demanding, so we just thought that we can do this to support them. We are not going to benefit from this blood drive immediately but, like I said, we can sometimes be very demanding,” Dr. Stephens said.
Dr. Stephens also underscored the importance of charity beginning at home as he explained that all staffers of the CHI and their families have been encouraged to lead the way and support the blood drive.
The blood drive is expected to begin at 9 am and will run until 3 pm at 263 Thomas Street , North Cummingsburg George-town.
