Den Amstel climbed into second place in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League downing New Amsterdam United (NA) 2-0 on Saturday at the No. #5 ground, West Coast Berbice.
It was the third win for the West Demerara unit in four matches and was the perfect reply to their hard-breaking 2-1 loss to defending champion the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), in their previous fixture.
Delon Lanferman and Gideon Payne separated the two teams with respective first half goals.
Lanferman broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, racing onto a through pass from Kester Jacobs and finishing past the advancing goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
The result was then put to bed in the 36th minute as Payne scored, slotting his effort into the back of the net, after latching onto a left side cross from Lanferman.
Meanwhile, Milerock claimed their first win of the event, defeating Cougars FC 1-0. Forward Kester Randolph scored in the 84th minute to relegate the Berbicians to their fourth consecutive defeat. The tournament resumes on Thursday.
