A city magistrate yesterday ruled to have four oral statements and a caution statement, made by Rajen Dindial, who is accused of fatally wounding another man at a wedding house last year, admitted into evidence during the continuation of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the crime.
The charge against Dindial alleges that he, on September 3, 2017, at Grove Squatting Area, murdered Alston Henry.
When the matter resumed yesterday before Magistrate Judy Latchman, attorney Jed Vasconcellos objected to any of the statements being admitted into evidence, since he said they were not freely and voluntarily made.
Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves argued, however, that the statements were made freely and voluntarily and urged the court to rule as such.
Magistrate Latchman, subsequent to a brief adjournment, ruled that she found that the oral statements and the caution statement had been made freely and voluntarily.
Her ruling was followed by testimony given by Sergeant 16473, Keith Conway, who is stationed at the Grove Police Station and attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He was later cross-examined by attorney Vasconcellos.
The matter is set to continue today.
