BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, CMC – Opener Kamau Leverock lashed 93 from 51 balls to propel Bermuda to a crushing 124-run victory over hosts Argentina in the second match of the ICC World T20 Americas Sub Regional Qualifier tri-series here on Tuesday.
Leverock, 23, son of Bermuda-based Barbadian police officer Dave Greenidge, helped the visitors pile up an imposing 209 for seven before they restricted Argentina, who lost Monday’s opener to the Cayman Islands by five wickets, to 85 for six in reply.
Left-hander Leverock’s knock included 12 fours and four sixes and featured two big partnerships which took the game away from the hosts.
He shared an opening stand of 82 in seven overs with wicketkeeper Okera Bascome, who made 32 from 16 balls, and then added 96 in 9.5 overs for the second wicket with veteran Janeiro Tucker, whose 40 from 33 balls included five fours and a six.
Bermuda used seven bowlers as they shackled Argentina’s batting, apart from opener Pedro Arrighi, who made 42 from 50 balls including seven fours, with Charles Trott and Kwasi James picking up two wickets apiece. Arrighi was Argentina’s top scorer with 34 in their opener.
Bermuda face the Cayman Islands on Wednesday in the tournament, which is the first step towards qualification for the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020. The three teams will face each other twice in Argentina, with the top two advancing to regional finals next year.
