Afruica Gentle single handedly blasted Mae’s Secondary to victory over Kuru-Kuru Cooperative College as the Forbes Burnham Easter Term Windball competition continued yesterday.
Batting first, Kuru-Kuru was sent on the back foot at the National Gymnasium with Aiesha Carmichael the only one to hold her own in the small environment.
Carmichael coasted to a fine half century with six fours and five massive sixes. With Ashley Europe departing for four and Jenella Primo failing to score, Makayda Small partnered Carmichael making a fighting 18 as Mae’s reached 79 from their five overs.
In reply, Gentle was all but gentle and produced a brutal assault which saw her facing every delivery of the innings that lasted just 14 deliveries. That was all it took for Gentle to hammer eight sixes including the one to seal the match.
Immediately after the assault, as the players left the field one of the young ladies collapsed outside.
The young teen was attended to by teachers as no medical personnel was present at the venue.
Calls to the Fire Service for an ambulance and to the emergency number 911, remained unanswered for as long as 15 minutes.
Eventually, someone from the Fire Service answered and assured the caller that the ambulance was on its way. It took another 15 minutes to reach but eventually it arrived and its personnel took control of the situation.
Afterwards, the competition continued and last year’s runners up, Cummings Lodge Secondary, were guided to victory over Tucville Secondary by national women’s player, Cassey Charles, who produced a calculated knock of 64 with 10 sixes and a solitary four to steer Cummings Lodge to victory in their chase of 107.
