Contrary to a report in yesterday’s Stabroek News entitled `Finance Minister proposal on GuySuCo Chair draws opposition at Cabinet’, Finance Minister Winston Jordan was not present at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting when the proposal in his name for a new Chairman of GuySuCo was presented.
Stabroek News regrets reporting that the minister was present at the Cabinet meeting. However, save for the fact that he wasn’t at the meeting, Stabroek News stands by the report.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Finance expressed “consternation” at what it said was an “incredible headline” on the story.
It said “For the record, the Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan was in fact attending an important Pre – Governors meeting of the IDB in Jamaica which ran from February 26 to 28, 2018. He returned to Guyana (Wednesday) night.
“Therefore, contrary to Stabroek News ‘sources,’ Minister Jordan was NOT present at Cabinet on Tuesday and consequently, did not ‘propose, argue, make a presentation or reasoned’ with Cabinet as reported.
“The Ministry of Finance calls on the Editor of Stabroek News to retract forthwith all actions attributed to the Minister of Finance in its article and to apologise to its readers for this misinformation”.
