The preliminary trial of the two police officers accused of the murder of businessman Godfrey Scipio, called ‘Sagga,’ yesterday commenced before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
The prosecution brought several witnesses to present evidence, including the man who took the deceased to the hospital and one of the investigating officers.
It is alleged that Detective Corporal Derwin Eastman and Constable Jamenson Williams on October 12th, 2017, at Stanley Place and David Street, Kitty, murdered Scipio in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
A previous report stated that Scipio, of Lot ‘ZZ’ 22 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was shot once in his abdomen during the fatal attack at Stanley Place, Kitty.
He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Woodlands Hospital.
A lone gunman pounced on Scipio and a female companion, demanding cash and jewellery as
they were leaving a nearby hotel. The gunman
discharged a round, hitting Scipio to the abdomen, and then relieved him of
the jewellery and escaped on foot.
The preliminary inquiry is set to continue on March 5th, when the prosecution will present more evidence through witnesses.
