Dear Editor,
It seems obvious that there are some people who are unable to cope with the stress of office. The recent attacks on a media operative by a high ranking public official appears to be a case in point. If what is reported in the media has any element of truth, then an apology is in order.
Public officials needed to be reminded that they are the servants of the people and not the other way around. In this regard, they need to humble themselves even when provoked. Humility is a strength and not a weakness. People should be humbled by power. Arrogance and vanity are the hallmarks of cowardice and weakness.
Our political leaders should be held accountable for their actions and should not feel offended when questioned by the media, or any member of the public for that matter.
I wish to encourage the media to continue to play its role as the watchdog of society and do not allow itself to be bullied by those in positions of authority.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
