Dendrobium Orchids originated in South East Asia, the South Pacific, Australia and India. These orchids are tree dwellers: they grow on trees in the wild.
There are approximately 12,000 species in this genus. Over the years they were cross-bred in South-East Asia and Holland. In Singapore and Thailand, the cross-breeding produced a popular variety called Dendrobium Phalaenopsis that puts out dazzling blooms which are exported all over the world as cut flowers and are florists’ delight for their long-lasting beauty.
These orchids are always popular and are garden treasures. They can grow under 50% shade on a tree, in pots and hanging baskets in a mixture of Orchid Mix and Bark, small stones and charcoals. Mist once per day and fertilize with Miracle Gro Orchid Food or Miracle Gro Bloom Booster once per week during blooming season and once every two weeks with Miracle Gro All Purpose out of season.
I have over 12 different colours of Dendrobium Orchids in bloom with multiple spikes. They are currently in bloom.
Until next week, Happy Gardening.
