Police have arrested transgender sex worker Otis Pearson, popularly known as “Otisha,” over allegations that she has engaged in sexual activity with a teenage boy who is below the age of consent, Commander of ‘A’ Division Leslie James has confirmed.
James last evening said that Pearson is being questioned by investigators. He noted that the minor, in the presence of his father, gave statements to investigators and they are continuing to investigate.
Crime Chief Paul Williams told Stabroek News that the Childcare and Protection Agency had launched an investigation and based on its findings, a report was submitted to the police.
The Agency had launched a probe following statements made by Pearson that she has “a little boy for every day of the week.”
Pearson, however, retracted the comment and stated that it was taken out of context. However, after the comment was made, a photograph with Pearson and a young man surfaced on social media.
He said ranks arrested Pearson on Monday night after she failed to report to the police.
Williams noted that they had established contact with Pearson, who indicated that she would make herself available for questioning last week but failed to do so.
Williams explained that upon completion of the investigation, the police would forward their findings to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice on charges.
