DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – West Indies star Andre Russell could face up to two months on the sidelines after being ruled out of the ongoing Pakistan Super League with a hamstring injury.
The Jamaican, who plays for Islamabad United, sustained a grade two tear while playing against Karachi Kings on Sunday in Sharjah.
Islamabad United physio Errol Alcott has since alluded to a time frame of between four and eight weeks regarding the player’s return to action.
“Russell was injured during the game against Karachi Kings and MRI results were not encouraging,” Alcott was quoted as saying. “He will not take any further part in the tournament.”
The injury also raises doubt over Russell’s role in the Indian Premier league which bowls off April 7, where he is expected to turn out for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Russell only returned to competitive cricket last month after serving a one-year anti-doping whereabouts ban. He played six matches for his native Jamaica Scorpions in the West Indies domestic 50-overs tournament but managed just three for Islamabad.
He made headlines last month when he opted out of selection for West Indies campaign in the ongoing ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe.
