Police are still to identify the gang of five men who invaded the home of a manager working at the oil services company, Guyana Shore Base Inc, during the wee hours of Wednesday last.
Police Commander of ‘A’ division, Leslie James explained that the attackers had been masked.
He, however, noted that investigators are still working on the case in the hopes of being able to catch the suspects.
Robert Albiez, the finance director at Guyana Shore Base Inc, which is providing onshore services to ExxonMobil, and his family were confronted by five men at their Republic Park home at about 2.30 am on Wednesday.
Two of the five men who invaded the home were armed with handguns and carted off a quantity of gold and diamond jewellery, local and foreign currencies, passports and several electronic items.
The men upon gaining entry into the house held Albiez, his wife Catianna Albiez and their infant daughter at gunpoint as they made their demands. The bandits threatened to kill the couple’s daughter if they didn’t hand over the valuables.
The family who has been heavily traumatized are preparing to return to their home country following the home invasion.
Albiez had said he was awakened to the sound of the house alarm which he had activated before retiring to bed with his family when he was attacked.
A police press release had said, “He (Albiez) was confronted by a male suspect who struck him on his head with an instrument. Soon after, the suspect was joined by his accomplices who held (the couple and their daughter at gunpoint), ransacked the house and escaped with the valuables.”
