A mother of six was yesterday remanded to prison after she was accused of stabbing her brother, who remains hospitalised in a critical condition.
Hazel Gonsalves, 32, was brought before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown, where she was read the attempted murder charge.
The charge alleges that on March 11th, at 1 Mile Potaro Road with intent to commit murder, Gonsalves unlawfully and maliciously wounded Keron Gonsalves.
The accused was not required to enter a plea to the charge.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to the defendant being granted bail, while citing the fact that the complainant remains hospitalised in a critical condition. According to the prosecutor, the complainant, who suffered suspected stab wounds, underwent emergency surgery and is expected to undergo further surgery because it is suspected that he has further internal bleeding.
The magistrate subsequently remanded the accused and ordered that arrangements be made with the Child Care and Protection Agency to have someone take care of her children, since the woman stated that she was the only adult at her home.
The case is to be heard again on April 3rd.
