Former murder accused Leon Duncan, called ‘Whistle,’ was yesterday granted his release on a total of $160,000 after he pleaded guilty to wounding and assault charges stemming from a fight at a Mashramani party, where two security guards were attacked.
The first charge alleged that Duncan, 27, on February 23rd, at Lamaha Street, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kenrick Maynard.
The second charge stated that Duncan on the same date and at the same place unlawfully assaulted Jermaine Adams
Duncan pleaded not guilty to both charges. His attorney stated that the altercation was between two other persons and his client tried to part the fight.
Police prosecutor Arvin Moore Objected to bail being granted and stated that on the day in question there was a brawl in the vicinity of the 704 Sports Bar and the accused took a bottle and hit both Adams and Maynard to their faces. They were taken to the hospital and treated.
Georgetown Magistrate Judy Latchman subsequently placed the man on $80,000 bail for each charge and adjourned the matter until March 26th.
It was previously reported that the incident occurred around 5.45 am at the 704 Sports Bar’s parking lot, located in the vicinity of Lamaha and Albert streets, Georgetown.
Adams, 33, was on duty at the Bar’s Sunrise Fete when he observed a fight some distance away from the bar.
As a result, he approached the scene in an attempt to calm the situation, when one of the individuals in the group, known as ‘Whistle,’ allegedly dealt him a blow to his left eye with a beer bottle.
Whistle’ and his accomplices, who were leaving, subsequently attacked Maynard, 34, dealing him several lashes to his face and other parts of the body, before fleeing the scene.
