DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC West Indies opener Lendl Simmons scored a half-century in only his second outing of the Pakistan Super League but Karachi Kings lost to Lahore Qalanders via the one-over eliminator in a dramatic contest here Sunday.
With Qalanders requiring 16 from the last six deliveries after being asked to chase 164 for victory at Dubai International Stadium, Sohail Akthar blasted a four and a six in gathering 12 runs off the first three deliveries.
But two run outs and a front-foot no ball underscored the drama as Qalanders failed to get the remaining runs.
Qalanders then posted 11 runs in the super over and Kings came up just short, after West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine strangled the pair of Simmons and Colin Ingram, with just two runs coming from the first five deliveries.
Earlier, Simmons looked in good touch, carving out a fluent 55 as Kings raised a competitive 163 for five off their 20 overs, after being sent in.
The right-hander struck eight fours and a six in a 39-ball knock, adding 72 for the second wicket with Babar Azam who lashed six fours and a six in a 49-ball top-score of 61.
Simmons fell in the 12th�over, holing out in the deep off pacer Sohail Khan.
Narine went wicket-less but proved miserly, conceding 22 runs from four overs. In reply, Qalanders were carried by Agha Salman who made 50 off 45 deliveries.
On Saturday, former Barbados and West Indies batsman Dwayne Smith hammered 49 and captain Darren Sammy slammed an unbeaten 36 from 19 deliveries but Peshawar Zalmi failed to defend 157 for five, losing by six wickets in the last over to Quetta Gladiators.
