Dear Editor,
I found another positive story to write about Guyana: I have found one of the most extraordinary places to visit. I have travelled the length and breadth of this country, and unarguably Bartica has to be among the best places to visit. This beautiful town, called the ‘Gateway’ into the interior is surrounded with water.
There are thousands of reasons to love Bartica: the quietness of nature and the ever-changing landscapes. Bartica is a hidden treasure; it will seduce you, whether you are attracted by rivers, nature, culture or people. If you are passionate for nature, art, history and want to know more about the rich cultural heritage and customs of this region, visit the town of Bartica.
Bartica is the most socially cohesive town in all of Guyana. This is not to say that there is not racism, but it’s very rare there. The Barticians are the friendliest people in the country and are comfortable speaking to strangers.
Currently, the town is building a boardwalk. From there, the view of the Esse-quibo River and the lovely breeze just take your breath away; the air is not polluted.
If you are planning to stay overnight, I highly recommend staying at Sky Lounge or Palm Springs Hotel. Sky Lounge is located near the river, which means that you can have an ocean (river) view room. It is Bartica’s best kept secret. Tracy who works there and is a deeply religious, interesting and intelligent person, loves to have friendly discussions about politics and religion.
But not to be outdone is Palm Springs; it is the ‘Marriott’ of Bartica and is definitely the town’s nicest hotel. The customer service and ambience are exceptional. Rihanna who is a co-owner, makes you feel like you’re right at home.
Every time I visit Bartica I fall in love with it over and over again, and I have a hard time leaving. This is why Bartica is the place to visit in Guyana ‒ a dream destination.
Yours faithfully,
Anthony Pantlitz
