Western Tigers climbed atop the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League standings while Fruta Conquerors moved into the second position following contrasting wins on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
The West Ruimveldt unit downed New Amsterdam (NA) United 2-1. Colin Nelson recorded a double in the third and 32nd minute. For the Berbicians, Leonard Adams scored in the 66th minute.
With the win Western Tigers now has 16 points while New Amsterdam United remains in ninth place on three points.
Meanwhile, Fruta Conquerors dismissed Milerock 4-1. Gregory Richardson, Dennis Edwards, Anthony Abrams and Anthony Belfield scored in the 30th, 42nd, 77th and 80th minute respectively while Milerock’s Colric Beckles netted in the 66th minute. With the result, Fruta Conquerors now has 15 points while Milerock remains on three points and in the eighth position.
The tournament continues today at the Camp Ayanganna ground with another doubleheader. At 17:30hrs, Victoria Kings lock horns with Den Amstel while defending champion Guyana Defence Force (GDF) battles Buxton United from 19:30hrs.
