Malteenoes, led by Jeremiah Scott’s century defeated the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) Sunday in the New Building Society 40 over second division tournament.
Playing with a majority of under 19 players, Malteenoes posted a mammoth 326-7 while GNIC struggled to come anywhere close to the target, eventually being dismissed for 167.
Malteenoes were rocked early with D. Layne bowling W. McPherson (2) while S. Browne struck in successive overs to remove C. Baird and D. Collins, both for four as Malteenoes stumbled at 3-31.
However Kefa Naughton and Scott combined to add 118 for the fourth wicket.
Brighton blasted a 35-ball 54 consisting of six fours and two sixes while Scott made a belligerent 116, depositing the bowling to all parts of the boundary on the small Woodford Avenue venue.
N. Permaul (24) and S. Sam (31) contributed explosive cameos but it was the 51 extras that further sunk GNIC.
Browne was the best bowler with 2-39 while Layne, J.Blair, T. Jones, M. Mentore and J. Mou picked up one each.
The GNIC chase got off to a bad start as new ball bowler, C. Collins removed the top three batsmen with only 21 on the board.
The fourth wicket stand was worth a century as J. Collins (56) and C. George (30) tried to revive the innings.
However with the dismissal of both set batsmen by Carl Kumar, S. Philander, 3-22, Collins, 3-29, Mou, 2-8 and Kumar 2-36 ensured GNIC was bowled out in the 32nd over.
